A Rescue of Robos

Sometimes, you are asked if you can take in a hamster and that's exactly what happens. You get all the details from the surrender form, you find a spot for them in rescue, you pick them up, and then they can start looking for their forever home.

Sometimes, it's not that simple.

Recently, we were contacted to see if we could take in 7 little robos. This was already a large group of little floofs, but we came together as a team, and found space for them. We arranged a date to pick them up, everything is as it should be!

So, the day arrives and it's time to collect our group of 7 robos! One of our brilliant fosterers sets off to pick them up. As we always do as a team, we let each other know when we're off to collect a surrender and keep each other updated. We get a message to say they arrived and are about to collect them!

Then, another message arrives:

"I have the robos, but there's an issue. There are 16!"

We'd planned for 7, but we're taking in 16. As we got more details, we knew there was no way our fosterer could have left the extras. They were living in awful conditions and this was an emergency. But where were they all going to go?

We mobilised. Our group chat became laser focused - who has space? Is it temporary or permanent space? How far away are you? Who can drive to collect them if they take one? Does anyone need any extra equipment?

Within 2 hours, we had all 16 robos with an allocated space. We arranged between ourselves who could pick them up, and who could drive a bit extra to drop some off for others.

This is what rescue life can be, an absolute scramble to find places for hamsters that we weren't expecting. But this is also where we shine as a group. Everyone was willing to go above and beyond to help these babies. The team got organised, fast. We knew what needed to be done, and we did it. This is why I love being a part of Bright Horizon, the love, compassion and commitment to helping hamsters is second to none

These robos have had a very tough start to life, and we estimate they're around 6 months old. So that's a long time for them to have been living how they were. As a result, some came with injuries, and some came with behaviours indicating trauma. They are scared, they are stressed, and they are just learning that they are safe. They are being well looked after by the team, and we will make sure that they are healthy before starting to look for their forever homes. Some may need to stay in the rescue as residents, and if they do they will be loved immensely.

Now we can't really tell you about this rescue and not include some photos of the precious floofs we saved can we? So here we go!
