A Rescue of Robos - an update

Hello all! I hope everyone is having a fabulous bank holiday weekend! It's been a little while since we published a blog, we've all been incredibly busy looking after our animals, both fosters and personal pets.

However, we thought it would be a great time to give you all an update on the big rescue of robos we did earlier in the year! We took in a whopping 16 Roborovski hamsters, and we covered their story in a previous blog: https://www.brighthorizonhamster.co.uk/post/a-rescue-of-robos

Well, we are pleased to say that a lot have found their forever homes, which is absolutely amazing! Some are still looking, but being absolutely adored by their foster carers in the mean time!

We had one very sad loss with little Zipp. He was growing in

confidence, but unfortunately he

passed away. This is the very sad reality of rescuing hamsters from poor care, they will often have underlying issues that mean their little bodies just can't cope, and we can't always detect it. Zipp was incredibly loved while he was with us, and his fosterer gave him his first experience of good, ethical care, and that will have meant the world to him. As you can see, he had built such a great bond with his fosterer, we like to think that he had already found his forever home, and he left this world knowing he was loved.

Next, we want to shine a light on those that are still searching for their perfect home. They are absolutely adorable, and would love to end the month with their very own family.

Dinkle

Dinkle is an absolutely adorable boy, and he has been flourishing in his foster home. He loves to forage, and is super inquisitive. He's even been brave enough to sit in his fosterer's hand to eat treats.

He's a happy boy that loves to forage and wheel. He isn't phased by general household noises, and he's an early riser so you'd get to see a lot of him! We think he would do so well with his very own human that would give him more of that one to one time to help him to keep building his confidence

You can see Dinkle loves his food, and he was very happy with this nut that's almost as big as him! He's also incredibly photogenic, and has just the cutest little face! It would be great to see him find his forever home soon.

Edie

Edie is a beautiful girl that has taken a little bit longer to get used to life in proper care. She has never gotten the hang of burrowing, so she tends to make herself a safe spot above ground to sleep. While this may not be the most natural behaviour, it does mean that you often get to see beautiful moments of her while she's asleep.

She will still need deep bedding so that if she does decide to give burrowing a shot, she will have the option

She has grown in confidence while with us, but she remains one of the shyer of the bunch. She loves being on her wheel and snacking, and she's been brave enough to sit on her fosterer's hand to take treats. She is looking for someone that can give her time and patience to keep building that confidence in her own time and on her terms

This photo though, how can you not want to see this cuteness every single day!

Gravy

Gravy is another gorgeous guy (honestly, they are all absolutely stunning!).

He is quite shy, and he struggles to feel confident around humans. Because of where they came from, a lot of these hamsters have found it a bit harder to trust that they are safe and that humans are safe. The team have done an amazing job working with these hamsters and helping them to feel secure, but sometimes hamsters just prefer their own space, and that's absolutely fine.

He is unlikely to be seen out exploring while humans are around, but if you are able to use a pet camera, then you will be able to watch him get up to his very private hamster business! He loves to make tunnels, he's managed to still tap into that instinct to burrow.

He would absolutely love to find his perfect human, that understands he may prefer to have less interaction, and is prepared to be a bit patient with him and still love him even if he remains shy and unsure of humans. He was reserved at one point, but the adoption unfortunately didn't go ahead, so we'd love for him to manage to find his home. He still has so much to give as a companion for someone.

Litten

This beautiful boy is also still searching for a home. He is doing really well with his fosterer, but he would really love to find his forever human

He is what you'd typically expect from a Roborovski; he is shy and a bit skittish. He will take treats from you, but he can be spooked easily so you need to keep quite still.

He also absolutely adores his substrates and will be a great companion to watch foraging and going about his hamster business! You will also catch him on his wheel a lot! And there is nothing better than watching a robo run, to see those little legs turn into nothing but a blur

He is a little foodie, so treats will be a good way to try and build his trust! He is an absolute gem, and we're really hoping that he can find his perfect home soon

Turbo

Turbo is a great little companion. Another typical Roborovski who is a bit wary, yet eager to interact. He will take treats from his fosterer, he is just a little shy and is going to need a bit of patience.

While it's amazing that we've had some of these hamsters develop brave, outgoing personalities, it's also very understandable that some haven't. Robo's are naturally the more wary of the species, and have a harder time trusting humans sometimes. Add to that the conditions in which these hamsters spent the first few months of their lives, and it is no wonder some are still shy and not fully confident.

Despite that, Turbo also loves his wheel and will also come to investigate when his fosterer

is in the room and when she talks to him, so he he is still a great hamster to have as one that may not really enjoy hands on interaction, but he'll still provide companionship.

Pud

Pud is just beautiful, and unfortunately another of the group that has had an adoption not go through. It's always a sad time when that happens, we always appreciate that people's circumstances can change and it's why we have a reservation period, but we always feel for the hamsters that have them fall through.

Pud is a shy boy, and is searching for a quiet home where he can feel safe and secure. He can get frightened quite easily, and does tend to prefer being left to his own devices. As with other shy robos though, this doesn't make them bad companions. There's so much joy to be had watching them burrow, forage and wheel.

And Pud absolutely loves his wheel, he spends a lot of his time getting those steps in and it's just great to watch. He is hoping to find his perfect human that understands that he's a gentle, shy boy that will need patience and love, but might never be a hamster that loves interaction. He will be an amazing friend to whoever gives him the chance.

Zoomy

Zoomy is the last of the group still searching for a home. He is such a cutie, and he has really shone while with us, and he's really shown his fosterer his amazing personality

Zoomy is incredibly inquisitive, and is especially curious when he senses food is around! He will come to investigate when his enclosure door is opened, and happily take treats from his fosterer, so it's a great way to build a bond with him.

He is also very active during the day, so you get to see him more than most hamsters that are much more nocturnal. It's such a nice thing when it happens, as you really do get to spend a lot more quality time with them when they're active during the day as well as night.

He's another burrower, and he made his main burrow behind his wheel, so he's really

flourishing in ethical care and tapping in to his instincts really well. He will make such a good friend to his forever human when they finally find him, and we hope that is soon.

Look at that face! How can anyone not want to see that every day?

If you would like to offer any of these beautiful hamsters a home, please get in touch! We are able to offer help with transport if needed, and we would love to see all of these hamsters find their forever homes!

Reserved!

We also currently have Aila, who has been reserved and so should be going to her new

home very soon! She is very excited!

I am lucky to be Aila's foster carer, and I could not be happier that she's going to get her forever home. Her new human is absolutely brilliant, and I can't wait for them both to meet

Now for the really good news, the ones that are already off living their best lives in their forever homes! We are forever grateful to every adopter that cares for one of our hamsters. We will also never tire of seeing updates of them in their new homes, being spoilt and loved, as they should be

Squee

This beautiful boy has found his forever home with two amazing humans that have given

him a beautiful home. He was my foster hamster, and while he was here we discovered he was blind and deaf. But he didn't let that phase him, and he grew into a really confident little guy. He had some injuries when he first arrived, as we think he really struggled with living in a group due to his disabilities, but he is now thriving in a custom built enclosure that's 100cm x 55cm

Zigzag

This little one also found his perfect home in a beautiful enclosure with beautiful

humans. He has been settling in so well, he has really fallen on his paws and we couldn't be happier for him. It is such a fantastic thing to see our foster hamsters find their perfect homes.

He is now living in a Linmon conversion, and he is absolutely living a life of luxury!

Cream

Cream is another of the lucky ones that found his perfect

home and the perfect human! He landed a really great set up in a Kerbal Gabbia, and a person that absolutely adores him.

Sometimes the stars align, and a hamster can match with the perfect human, one who understands what they need and loves them unconditionally - Cream found that

Cubone (Pawhut)

This beautiful girl really did well for herself, and she has gone to live in a Pawhut with yet another amazing human (we may be biased, but we think every single person that has adopted from us is just brilliant). She is living her best life with an absolutely beautiful set up that she wasted no time in exploring when she moved in! I know her foster mumma is so happy for her.

Beanz

Little Beanz also found himself an amazing home, with a human that he is becoming fast friends with! His human is an avid rescuer of animals, and has ventured into the world of hamsters with this beautiful boy! His set up is just beautiful, in a Bucatstate 100 enclosure. And, who doesn't love cheesey Beanz!

We are so happy for Beanz, he deserves the best of everything

Psyduck

This lucky boy found his perfect home in a Bucatstate 100 enclosure, and has been enjoying the good life with his forever human.

He has a fantastic set up, and he has been given a new name that is Stranger Things themed! For any fans of the show, let us know in the comments what you would have called this little cutie!

We love the photo of him in his new home, peeping out from his new little castle. Happy new home Psyduck!

Here's hoping that on our next update, we can tell you that they all found their forever homes! They really do deserve it after everything they have been through.

If any of our adopters are reading this, please do let us know how they're getting on in the comments! We can never have too many updates about the hamsters we have fostered, every single one means a lot to us all
